Container Seaport Management
Acura Embedded Systems has years of experience supplying reliable rugged industrial computer solutions to seaports for container management. The main Vancouver port operator, TSI (Terminal Systems Inc.), uses Acura systems at the Van Term and Delta port facilities. Their previous very expensive computer systems required costly overseas maintenance and support. These were replaced with Acura systems in many gantry and other cranes, and in about 100 stackers and supervisory vehicles. Acura also provided custom hardware support as the port communications needs changed over the years from simple hard-wires to modems and later Ethernet networking. Acura thusly proved the flexibility and superior ease of upgrade of its computer designs.

How are computers used in ports?
Implementing digital computer management of container information enables efficient and effective offloading, storage and re-loading. Tracking of containers provides an efficient responsive way to plan and manage the port. Units can be tracked anywhere on the docks through storage areas and re-loading onto trucks for transport (or the reverse for containers coming into the yard by truck). Acura can provide either dumb terminals or networked computer systems to suit individual port needs.
